Frequently asked questions

  • Most dogs do best on a 4 week schedule to keep them clean, decrease shedding, prevent smaller knots and tangles from becoming a problem and preventing their nails from getting uncomfortably long.

If your dog has a very long or high maintenance coat that you struggle keeping up with in between monthly appointments or you just like to keep your pet extra clean, an every other week schedule alternating baths and haircuts would likely work best for them.

  • We strongly believe in humanity over vanity and as such don’t offer heavy or extensive dematting services. I typically limit brushing out time to no more than 20 minutes.

Heavy/extensive dematting can be stressful, uncomfortable and painful for your pet. Additionally, it can cause irritation to the skin and do a lot of damage to their coat which will lead to those areas matting more readily.

Remember: It’s just hair, it’ll grow back! Your pet’s health and well being are far more important than a little extra fluff. Matting is completely preventable and we’re always happy to help you find the correct grooming schedule for your pet as well as show you how to maintain you pet's coat at home in between appointments so your pup always looks and feels their best.

  • If your dog is over 4 months old you should have proof of their current Rabies vaccine. Rabies vaccine titers or a letter from your vet exempting your dog from it due to medical reasons are also accepted. We strongly recommend following your veterinarian’s advice for other age and life style appropriate vaccines but do not require records for them.

Puppies don’t need to wait until they're fully vaccinated as they won’t have direct contact with any other pets and the areas they'll be on are fully sanitized in between appointments. They will benefit from starting slow introductions to being groomed young so it doesn’t become an overwhelming or scary first experience when they’re older.

  • We don’t take on pets with known flea problems, please consult with your vet to see what flea preventative medication would work best for your pet. Once it is under control we would be more than happy to help you with your pet’s grooming needs.

We know how difficult and frustrating it can be dealing with bad flea infestations, that a lot of pets struggle with severe flea allergies or that due to medical reasons, some pets cannot be given any kind of flea preventative medications. We wouldn't want to accidentally expose anyone else’s pets to fleas.

  • Unfortunately we don’t have same day availability and for a deskunking bath to be most effective it needs to be done as soon as possible following being sprayed as the oily secretions that cause the awful smell will only penetrate deeper into their hair and skin the longer it stays on them.

Follow the instructions on the ASPCA website for one of the most effective, at home treatments if you’re unable to find a groomer to see your dog the same day:

    https://www.aspca.org/news/what-do-if-your-dog-gets-sprayed-skunk

Pro tip: do not get your dog wet before applying the mixture, it’s most effective if applied directly on areas affected immediately after mixing.

  • If your pet has a restricted diet due to allergies or other health problems, then we would suggest providing their own favorite treats to have during the appointment to avoid potential upset tummies or allergy flare ups.

  • For the safety of your pet we don’t work with aggressive or extremely anxious pets as this puts them at a much higher risk of accidents during the appointment and also puts our groomer at a higher risk for being bitten.

We would recommend booking an appointment at a veterinary hospital that offers grooming services so that the groomer working on your pet will have extra help available for handling if needed, veterinary staff to help monitor your pet if they need to be sedated, or something comes up that needs immediate medical attention.

If biting or extreme anxiety during grooming are new behaviors for your pet, we would suggest to have your veterinarian do a thorough exam on them as sometimes things such as dental disease, joint pain and other undiagnosed medical conditions can trigger these behaviors. Managing the conditions can make grooming easier on them again.
